Osteoporosis Drugs Tied to Eye Problems
(HealthScoutNews, 3/19/03)

Ophthalmologists, Drs Frederick W. Fraunfelder and Frederick T. Fraunfelder at the Casey Eye Institute in Portland, report that bisphosphonates, a class of drugs used to slow down bone loss, may cause serious eye problems. Patients experienced eye pain, conjunctivitis, scleritis, uveitis and other ocular disturbances. Some patients had to completely discontinue the drug in order to relieve the symptoms. The doctors noted that these side-effects did not appear in physician's guides.
