According to Marcel Geilenkeuser from the Darmstadt Clinic in Germany and colleagues, children who eat certain smoked sausages are more likely to develop the auto-immune disease, multiple sclerosis (MS), as adults. The researchers speculate that the nitrates in the meat combining with substances in the smoke produce this harmful, long-term effect.
