After interviewing stroke survivors, caregivers and people with no experience with stroke, Sung Sug Yoon, a nurse at the University of Newcastle in New South Wales, Australia, concluded that many victims delay treatment because symptoms vary so widely that most people do not recognize early signs of stroke. She suggests directing education efforts to those who are high risk, like the elderly.
