Mediterranean
Diet Keeps Arthritis Symptoms at Bay
(NY, Reuters Health, 2/19/03)
Dr. Lars Skoldstam of Visby Hospital in Sweden and
colleagues assigned 26 patients with rheumatoid arthritis to
eat a Mediterranean diet that was high in fruits vegetables,
legumes and specific oils; while 25 patients in the control
group continued to eat a standard Western diet. After 3
months, the subjects eating the Mediterranean diet experienced
an easing of arthritic symptoms; including decreases in pain,
inflammation, and swollen joints. |
