Magnesium in
Diet May Alter Heart Disease Risk
(NY, Reuters Health, 10/10/03)
Dr. Robert D. Abbott of the University of Virginia Health
System in Charlottesville, and team, assessed the dietary
magnesium intake of 7,172 male participants in the 30-year
Honolulu Heart Program. The researchers found that within the
first 15 years of the study, heart disease was significantly
reduced in men who ingested the highest amounts of magnesium
in their daily diet, as compared with those ingesting the
least. The findings suggest that including more magnesium rich
foods in the diet may reduce cardiac risk. |
