Inflammation
May Be Behind DVT
(HealthDayNews,11/25/03)
Dr. Thomas W. Wakefield and a colleague at the University
of Michigan Medical School have found that a condition known
as deep venous thrombosis (DVT) in which blood clots develop
deep inside veins may be related to inflammation. Through
studies with mice, the researchers have seen that immune cells
and inflammatory molecules are involved in clot formation,
suggesting that clots may be prevented through
anti-inflammatory treatments, rather than using blood-thinners
after DVT develops. |
