Housework Can
Help Prevent Cancer, Say Scientists
(Canberra, Reuters Health, 6/5/03)
Colin Binns from Perth's Curtin University in Australia and
colleagues conducted a two-year study of 900 Chinese women at
Xhejiang University Hospital in Hangzhou in Xhejiang Province
near Shanghai. The researchers found that a lack of physical
activity increases the risk of ovarian cancer. According to
the study results, even moderate exercise, like housework, can
protect against ovarian cancer. Binns theorizes that exercise
may affect hormone activity by preventing fat storage and may
also boost the immune system. |
