Hot Flashes
 (HealthScoutNews, 2/25/03)

The National Women's Health Information Center, recognizing that many women are reluctant to undergo Hormone Replacement Therapy (HRT) because of recent revelations about side effects, recommends some lifestyle changes for menopausal women. They suggest preventing hot flashes by avoiding caffeine, alcohol, smoking, chocolate and aged cheeses. If symptoms occur anyway, the group advises dressing in layers (so that you can remove a layer if you feel hot), carrying a portable fan, lowering your thermostat and drinking cool water at the beginning of a hot flash.
