Hormone Trial
Halted Due to Cancer, Heart Risk
(Washington, Reuters Health, 7/9/02)
A comprehensive study of Hormone Replacement Therapy (HRT)
had to be halted because it became evident that women taking
the hormones were more prone to breast cancer, heart attack,
stroke and blood clots than their peers. As as result, Dr.
Jacques Rossouw, director of the Women's Health Initiative
(part of the National Heart, Lung and Blood Institute) who
headed the study, suggested that women who still have their
uteruses and are on HRT therapy, speak to their doctors. |
