Hormone Trial Halted Due to Cancer, Heart Risk

A comprehensive study of Hormone Replacement Therapy (HRT) had to be halted because it became evident that women taking the hormones were more prone to breast cancer, heart attack, stroke and blood clots than their peers. As as result, Dr. Jacques Rossouw, director of the Women's Health Initiative (part of the National Heart, Lung and Blood Institute) who headed the study, suggested that women who still have their uteruses and are on HRT therapy, speak to their doctors.
