Halitosis
Could be Sign of Ulcer Bug Infection
(London, Reuters Health, 1/31/03)
Dr. Ender Serin and colleagues at Baskent University in
Turkey, treated 148 people who had bad breath and dyspepsia, a
form of indigestion. The researchers initiated therapy to
eradicate H pylori infection in the subjects' intestinal
tracts and then, four weeks later, evaluated the results. The
doctors found that many of the subjects said that their
halitosis (bad breath) was now gone, which raised the
possibility that bad breath may be a marker for H. pylori, the
bacteria that is associated with ulcers. |
