A joint study by the University of Northumbria and the Cognitive Research Unit, Reading, concluded that the repetitive motion involved in chewing gum may have a positive effect on cognitive functions, including memory. Researchers speculate that, by slightly increasing heart rate, the chewing may bring more oxygen and glucose to the brain.
