Fruits,
Veggies Cut Breast Cancer Risk
(HealthDayNews, 10/31/03)
Jackilen Shannon, and colleagues at Oregon Health and
Science University, used a lifestyle questionnaire to analyze
the eating habits of 1448 women living in Shanghai, China: 378
of the subjects had breast cancer and the rest did not. The
investigators found that women whose diet contained at least 4
daily servings of fruits and vegetables have a 50% lower risk
of developing breast cancer than those eating 2 or fewer
servings each day. The researchers noted that breast cancer
risk was also lower for subjects who consumed 6 or more eggs
weekly. These findings suggest that women should eat a diet
rich in fruits and vegetables. |
