Folic Acid,
Vitamin B6 May Protect Against Breast Cancer
(YahooNews, 3/25/03)
As reported in Vol. 95, No. 5 of the Journal of the
National Cancer Institute, Harvard researchers, Dr. Shumin
Zhang and Dr. Walter Willet and associates, have found that
eating foods that are high in folic acid and B6 may lower a
woman's risk of developing breast cancer. The researchers
analyzed data from the Nurses' Health Study, a long-term study
that tracked lifestyle factors and health statuses for more
than 121,000 female registered nurses. When the investigators
compared the data for 712 nurses who had developed breast
cancer to 712 who had not, they found that the diets of the
breast cancer victims contained less folic acid and Vitamin B6
than that of the cancer-free nurses. |
