Expect a Jump
in Aches and Pains
(Atlanta, Reuters Health, 5/29/03)
Dr. Chad Helmick, an arthritis expert for the Centers for
Disease Control (CDC), calls for making an investment in the
control of arthritis now, before the disease overburdens the
healthcare system. Arthritis is the top disability in the US
and, based on a 2001 telephone survey, Dr. Helmick predicts a
near doubling of arthritis cases over the next quarter-century
as the over-65 population grows from 12.9% in 2005 to 20% in
2030. According to researchers, arthritis can be dealt with
through lifestyle changes -including, diet, weight management
and exercise--in addition to medical solutions. |
