Eating Fish
Makes Heart Beat Slower
(NY, Reuters Health, 8/14/03)
Dr. Jean Dallongeville, from Institut Pasteur de Lille in
France, and team, divided almost 10,000 healthy older males
into 4 groups, depending on their weekly fish consumption.
When the researchers analyzed the data, they found that the
men who ate more fish had slower heart rates, as well as
higher cellular levels of Omega-3 fatty acids, lower blood
pressure, lower triglycerides and higher HDL ("good
cholesterol") levels. The scientists conclude that consuming
fish is good for the cardiovascular system and, since "sudden
death" is associated with a fast heart beat, may protect
against a fatal outcome. |
