Dark Chocolate May Have Benefit
 (Chicago, Health AP, 8/28/03)

Dr. Dirk Taubert of the University of Cologne in Germany, and fellow researchers, assigned 13 mildly hypertensive adults to each consume a 3 oz candy bar daily for 2 weeks in place of their usual treats. Half of the subjects ate dark chocolate, while the rest received white chocolate. Blood pressure readings fell for the group consuming dark chocolate; while the pressure of the subjects eating white chocolate remained virtually unchanged. Scientists speculate that the polyphenols, present in dark chocolate, but not in the white, may be responsible for the anti-hypertensive effect.
