DHEA May Ward Off Heart Problems, Diabetes
 (NY, Reuters Health, 7/25/03)

Dr. Hiroaki Kawano and associates from Kumamoto University School of Medicine in Japan studied 24 older men who had high cholesterol. The researchers gave 12 men 25 mg of DHEA (Dehydroepiandrosterone) daily for 12 weeks; while they gave the other 12 a placebo. Only the DHEA group experienced improvement in arterial flexibility and insulin sensitivity. These findings suggest that DHEA may have a protective effect on the cardiovascular system
