DHEA May Raise Heart Disease Risks

Based on several laboratory experiments, Dr. David S. Celermajer, from the Royal Prince Alfred Hospital in Australia, and team, warn that dehydroepiandrosterone (DHEA), a popular “anti-aging” supplement, may contribute to the buildup of arterial plaque. The scientists found that in the lab, DHEA boosted the production of plaque-producing foam cells; however, their research is preliminary and must be followed up with further studies and clinical trials in order to gauge the effect of DHEA supplements on human blood vessels.
