Citrus, Zinc
May Cut Rheumatoid Arthritis Risks
(NY, Reuters Health, 2/19/03)
Dr. James Cerhan of the Mayo Clinic in Rochester,
Minnesota, and colleagues, analyzed the results of the Iowa
Women's Health Study, in which more than 30,000 women had
participated. The researchers found that women whose daily
intake of beta-cryptoxanthin, an antioxidant found in citrus
fruit, exceeded 40 mcg daily, had a lower risk of developing
rheumatoid arthritis. The study also showed a correlation
between taking zinc supplements and a decreased risk of
developing arthritis. |
