Citrus, Zinc May Cut Rheumatoid Arthritis Risks

Dr. James Cerhan of the Mayo Clinic in Rochester, Minnesota, and colleagues, analyzed the results of the Iowa Women's Health Study, in which more than 30,000 women had participated. The researchers found that women whose daily intake of beta-cryptoxanthin, an antioxidant found in citrus fruit, exceeded 40 mcg daily, had a lower risk of developing rheumatoid arthritis. The study also showed a correlation between taking zinc supplements and a decreased risk of developing arthritis.
