Blood
Pressure Lowering May Boost Life Expectancy
(NY, Reuters Health, 11/28/03)
Dr. Howard. D. Sesso, of Brigham and Women's Hospital,
Boston, and team, used a hypothetical model and data from
57,573 subjects to assess the effect of lowering blood
pressure on life expectancy. For the investigation, the
scientists categorized the subjects by 7 parameters: “no
cardiovascular disease, stroke, myocardial infarction,
revascularization, history of cardiovascular disease,
non-cardiovascular disease death, and cardiovascular death.”
The researchers concluded that cardiovascular patients who
have hypertension could significantly increase their life
spans by reducing their blood pressure. |
