Wiping Out Ulcer Bug May Help Glaucoma Patients

Dr Jannis Kountouras of Aristotle University of Thessaloniki in Macedonia and fellow researchers have found a link between Helicobacter pylori, a bacterium typically associated with stomach ulcers, and glaucoma. The scientists detected H. pylori bacteria in 36 of 41 glaucoma patients. At the end of 2 years, they found improved glaucoma pressure and increased field of vision only in the patients whose H. pylori bacteria had been eradicated.
