Vitamins C, E
Protect Lungs from Ozone Pollution
(New York, Reuters Health, 9/26/02)
Dr. Isabelle Romieu of the National Institute of Public
Health in Mexico and colleagues randomly divided 158 asthmatic
children into 2 groups. Participants in one group took a daily
vitamin supplement; while the others were given a placebo.
After a year and a half, the children receiving the vitamins
had better lung function than their peers, as demonstrated by
measuring forced expiratory flow and peak expiratory volume. |
