Vitamin C
Helps Drugs Pass Blood-Brain Barrier
(Florence, Reuters Health, 1/15/02)
Dr. Stefano Manfedini of the University of Ferrara in Italy
and his colleagues used a component of Vitamin C, the SVCT2
transporter, to facilitate the delivery of 3 drugs across the
blood-brain barrier. This research demonstrates a potential
role for Vitamin C to act as a "shuttle" in getting medication
to the brain in the treatment of neurological disorders, as
well as viral diseases that affect the brain. |
