Veggies Slow
Spread - Not Start - of Colon Cancer
(New York, Reuters Health, 6/21/02)
When Dr. John D. Potter of the Fred Hutchinson Cancer
Research Center in Seattle and colleagues cross-referenced the
results of 1781 polyp screenings to dietary habits, they
concluded that a diet high in fruits and vegetables did not
prevent polyps; however, such a diet seemed to decrease the
risk of the polyps becoming malignant. The scientists also
noted that women who drank the most juice were less likely to
develop polyps at all, possibly due to the juices' high folate
content. |
