Advise Adding B12 & Folic Acid to Grains
(NY, Reuters Health, 2002)
In a letter in the Lancet of 1/19/02, researchers at St.
James Hospital in Dublin, Ireland advised that, since our
bodies need both folic acid (B9) & B12 to dissipate the
homocysteine produced when we metabolize proteins, grains
should be fortified with both nutrients. Their study
demonstrated that folic acid lowered homocysteine, a risk
factor for heart attacks; but as they increased folate
dosages, homocysteine levels responded less to folates & more
to B12. |
