Dr. Manuela Gaga-Dominguez, a researcher at the Keck School of Medicine and Norris Comprehensive Cancer Clinic at the University of Southern California in Los Angeles, reports that some women may have a greater risk of developing bladder cancer from permanent hair dye because their bodies are genetically programmed to eliminate arylamines, a carcinogen in hair dye, at a slow rate.
