Red Meat Gene
Linked with Prostate Cancer in Study
(Washington, Reuters Health, 4/17/02)
Johns Hopkins University researchers, Dr. Angelo De Marzo
and William Isaacs, have found that the gene which produces an
enzyme that breaks down the AMACR fatty acid molecule in the
digestion of red meat, is highly active in prostate cancer
cells. While the AMACR gene is a marker for prostate cancer,
the researchers say that it is too early to conclude that
eating red meat causes the cancer. |
