Quitting Smoking Lowers Cataract Risk Slightly

Smoking increases the probability that a person will develop cataracts because it promotes oxidative stress which creates free radicals in the lens of the eye. Now Dr. June M.Weintraub and colleagues at Harvard School of Public Health in Boston have found that quitting smoking may reduce the risk somewhat, but not to as low a level as that for people who have never smoked.
