Moms' Diet Can Help Newborns Sleep Better
(New York, Reuters Health, 8/23/02)
Dr. Evelyn Thoman and colleagues at the University of
Connecticut, tested the levels of the fatty acid,
docosahexaenoic acid (DHA), in the blood of 17 women at the
time they gave birth. When the researchers monitored these
women's newborns for 2 days, they found that mothers who had
adequate levels of DHA tended to have babies with healthier
sleep patterns and, according to some scientists, potentially
better brain development. |
