According to a study of 10,000 adults conducted by Dr. Paul Knekt of the National Public Health Institute in Finland, eating foods rich in flavonoids may reduce a person's risk of dying from chronic illnesses, including lung cancer, stroke and diabetes. Apples, which contain the flavonoid, quercitin, showed the most notable protective effect.
