Periodontal
Disease Linked to Stroke
(HealthScoutNews, 12/12/02)
Kaumudi J. Joshipura, associate professor of epidemiology
at the Harvard School of Dental Medicine and colleagues,
analyzed the responses of 41,380 men who, as participants in
the Health Professionals Follow-up Study, submitted
questionnaires over a period of 12 years. The researchers
found that men who had fewer teeth were more likely to develop
a stroke. This finding adds further confirmation to the
possible link between gum inflammation, C-reactive protein and
cardiovascular problems. |
