One Drink a
Day Boosts Breast Cancer Risk -- UK Study
(London, Reuter's Health, 11/12/02)
Professor Valerie Beral of the Radcliffe Infirmary in
Oxford and Sir Richard Doll and their colleagues reviewed 53
studies which gave them access to data from 150,000 women
worldwide. An analysis of this data showed that drinking even
one glass of wine or beer daily raises a woman's risk of
developing breast cancer. Since previous studies have reported
that a daily glass of wine may be beneficial to the
cardio-vascular system, a woman must weigh the possible
protective effect to the heart against the negative effect to
the breast at her particular age. |
