More Dietary Folate Lessens Stroke Risk

When Dr. Lydia Bazzano of Tulane University, New Orleans, and colleagues reviewed government nutritional surveys of 10,000 adults, they found that people who consume foods rich in folic acid are less likely to suffer strokes. The protective effect of folate, a B vitamin, may derive from its ability to reduce homocysteine, which can weaken artery walls.
