Low-Calorie
Diets May Help Dogs Live Longer
(New York, Reuters Health, 9/18/02)
Dr. Gail K. Smith and colleagues at the University of
Pennsylvania in Philadelphia, paired 48 Labrador Retrievers
and gave one dog in each pair unlimited quantities of food and
the other 25% less than its partner ate. On average, the
calorie-restricted dog lived 2 years longer and did not
develop chronic diseases, like osteoarthritis, until much
later. |
