Linoleic Acid Intake May Cut Stroke Risk
 (NY, Reuters Health, 8/1/02)

Dr. Hiroyasu Iso of the University of Tsukuba in Japan and colleagues tested the blood of 7,450 adults over age 40 for linoleic acid and asked them questions about their diets. The team then tracked these people for a period of from 6 to 14 years and found that participants who had greater blood levels of linoleic acid had a smaller risk of ischemic stroke, which results from narrowed arteries. The results of this study suggest that a diet rich in linoleic acid may protect against ischemic strokes, possibly by preventing the blood from clumping
