Infected Gums
Leak Toxins into Bloodstream
(NY, Reuters Health, 2/7/02)
Dr. Eric H. Rompen of the University of Liege, Belgium and
colleagues found that people with severe gum disease had
higher levels of endotoxins in their bloodstreams after
chewing gum than those with healthier mouths. Endotoxins, the
poisons emitted by some bacteria, may create chronic
inflammatory conditions in the blood vessels that can lead to
heart disease. |
