Green Tea May
Protect Against Heart Attack
(NY, Reuters Health, 12/12/02)
Dr. Yukihiko Momiyama of the National Defense Medical
College in Saitama, Japan, and colleagues studied 393 people
who were undergoing angioplasty, a diagnostic test for artery
disease. The researchers found that the patients who drank at
least one cup of green tea daily were 42% less likely to
suffer a heart attack than those who did not. The scientists
believe that the flavonoids in the tea may protect the
cardiovascular system by combating free radicals which can
damage cells. |
