Grapes'
Anti-Fungal Agent May Fight Cancer Too
(London, Reuters Health, 2/26/02)
Professor Gerry Potter and fellow scientists at the School
of Pharmacy at De Montfort University in Leicester, England
report that the human enzyme CYP1B1 converts Resveratrol, a
natural anti-fungal found in grapes, into piceatannol, an
anticancer agent. This research group had previously shown
that Riserveratrol conversion is selective and limits toxic
effects because it occurs only within the cancerous tumors. |
