Genes May
Play Role in Carpal Tunnel Syndrome
(New York, Reuters, 7/2/02)
Dr. Alan J. Hakim of St. Thomas Hospital in London and team
studied the incidence of carpal tunnel syndrome in a group of
females that included identical twins, fraternal twins and
non-twins. The researchers found that the identical twins (who
have the same genetic makeup) were more likely to share carpal
tunnel syndrome symptoms, suggesting that genes play a strong
role (nearly 50%) in determining whether women will experience
carpal tunnel syndrome. |
