Folic Acid
May Help Restore Artery Health
(New York, Reuters Health, 5/29/02)
Dr. Kam S. Woo of Prince of Wales Hospital in Hong Kong and
colleagues gave 29 study participants daily doses of folic
acid. After one year, they found that homocysteine levels of
the subjects were lower, decreasing their risk of clogged
arteries, and blood vessel linings were better able to expand
in response to the body's need for oxygen-rich blood, further
reducing the risk of heart attack and stroke. |
