Folate
Supplement May Reduce Cancer Risk
(NY, Reuters Health, 7/18/02)
For 3 months, K. Khosraviani of Royal Victoria Hospital in
Belfast, Ireland and colleagues had 6 patients with recurrent
colon polyps take a daily 2-milligram dose of folate; while 5
patients took a placebo. When the researchers evaluated rectal
tissue samples, they found a reduction of cell proliferation
among those who were taking the folate, suggesting a decreased
risk of developing cancer. |
