Flaxseed
Helps Mice with Prostate Cancer
(HealthScoutNews, 11/12/02)
Researchers at Duke University Medical Center studied 135
mice that had been genetically engineered to develop prostate
cancer. They divided the animals into 2 groups and fed them
all a standard mouse diet, replacing 5% of the food with
flaxseed for one of the groups. The researcher found that the
tumors in the mice eating the flaxseed were less aggressive
and half the size of those in the control group. This
validates previous studies that suggest that the high Omega-3
fatty acids and the fiber content in flaxseed may protect
against cancer. |
