Fish May
Lower Stroke Risk in Men: Study
(NY, Reuters Health, 12/24/02)
When Dr. Ka Ha of the Harvard School of Public Health in
Boston and team analyzed data collected from the 43,000
participants in the long-term Health Professional Follow-Up
study, the researchers found that men who ate at least one
serving of fish a month had a significantly lower risk of
having an ischemic stroke than their peers. The scientists
speculate that the Omega-3 oils in fish may reduce the
stickiness of the platelets, thereby preventing the formation
of clots that can disrupt the flow of blood to the brain and
cause this type of stroke. |
