Fish Cuts
Risk of Heart Attack & Sudden Death
(New York, Reuters Health, 4/9/02)
Two national studies report a decreased risk of cardiac
disease and death for people who consume fish. Researchers in
Boston at Brigham and Women's Hospital and at Massachusetts
General found that men with no history of heart disease were
less likely to die suddenly if their blood levels of omega-3
fatty acids (found in fish) were high. Another study,
published in JAMA's April 10th issue, found fewer incidences
of coronary artery disease and fatal heart attacks for women
who ate at least 5 servings of fish per week. |
