 (HealthScoutNews, 8/27/02)

Vallie Holloway, a researcher at Loyola University Medical Center in Maywood Illinois, studied 180 rats, half bred to have high blood pressure and the other half to have low blood pressure. Half of each group received daily doses of Omega-6. Hypertensive rats receiving the supplement maintained brain function longer; whereas those not taking Omega-6 experienced increased blood pressure and a more rapid loss of memory function. The researcher concluded that fatty acids, like those found in fish and nuts, are essential to maintaining healthy brain function over time.
