Studies on mice performed by Dr. Hermona Soreq and her colleagues at Hebrew University of Jerusalem in Israel show that intense stress may alter a protein in the brain, creating "lingering over-sensitivity to outside stimuli." These findings may help explain how stress can produce long-term effects, including post-traumatic stress disorder.
