Exercise May
Lower Protein Tied to Heart Disease
(Chicago, Reuters Health, 4/3/03)
When Dr. Michelle A. Albert and her colleagues at Harvard
divided 2,833 adults into 4 groups based on whether they
regularly exercised one, two, three or at least four times a
week, the scientists found that subjects who exercised more
had lower CRP levels. These same researchers have also found
that CRP is a more accurate predictor of cardiovascular
problems than so-called "bad" LDL cholesterol. Their findings
imply that exercise may actually reduce cardiovascular risk by
lowering factors, like CRP, that are associated with
cardiovascular problems |
