Keeps Older People's Brains in Shape
(New York, Reuters, 6/27/02)
When Dr. Walter R. Bixby of the University of Maryland in
College Park and team tested the focusing ability of 106
seniors whose average age was eighty, the researchers found
that the participants who lived more active lives scored
higher on the test. In another study, Sean Deeny of the
University of Maryland and colleagues used brain scans to
assess the ability of 36 seniors to focus on one thing over
another. Once again, the researchers saw a positive
correlation between physical activity and better focusing
abilities. |
