 (NY, Reuters Health, 5/4/02)

A report in the January issue of "Hypertension: Journal of the American Heart Association" describes how Dr. Pagani of the University of Milan, Italy and his colleagues evaluated the stress levels of 30 medical students, first before a test and 3 months later when they were on a break from school. A comparison of the readings of autonomic functions, like heart rhythm and blood pressure, taken under the 2 situations confirmed a relationship between psychological stress and increased risk of hypertension.
