Crohn's Disease is a chronic inflammation of the bowel in which the gut lining becomes more porous, allowing harmful substances to pass into the bloodstream. Dr. Peter Suenaert of the Catholic University Leuven in Belgium and team used an infusion of Infliximab to inhibit the Tumor Necrosis Factor (TNF) in 23 Crohn's patients and found that blocking this single protein (TNF) reduced inflammation and substantially restored the gut lining.
